چکیده

Specimens from the Harderian gland, the lacrimal gland and bursa of Fabricius in ducks with chlamydiosis were processed by the classical histological methods and permanent preparations were obtained. On single and serial histological cross-sections from material fixed in non-aqueous fixator, histochemical tests for PAS reactivity, staining with alcian blue at pH 1.0 and 2.5 as well as staining with Mowrys alcian blue followed by PAS reaction were performed. The light microscopic observation did not reveal considerable changes in the lacrimal gland. Structural and functional changes with various character and degree in the central lobular parts of the Harderian gland, the epithelium, the propria and thymus-like lobules of the bursa of Fabricius were observed. The histochemical analyses showed that the secretion of intraorbital glands in Mulard ducks was with a heteropolysaccharide nature, similarly to that in other waterfowl.

Morphological and histological study of superior lacrimal gland of third eyelid in camel (Camelus dromedarius)

In this study ten pairs of superior gland of third eyelid of 10 adult male camels free of apparent ocular disease were examined to compare the normal anatomical and histological properties of these glands. After dissecting, all of the glands were characterized and measured (length and width) on both the left and right side. In the camels, the superior gland of the third eyelid was oval shaped a...

Histological and histochemical studies on the Harderian gland in native chickens

The objective of this investigation was to study the histological and histochemical structure of the Harderian gland in native chickens. Samples were obtained from 10 male and 10 female adult healthy native chickens. Tissue sections were stained with haematoxylin eosin, Verhoeff ’s, Masson’s trichrome, alcian blue (pH 2.5), periodic acid-Schiff and Gomori’s method for reticulum. The multilobula...

Changes in the Paraocular Glands Accompanying the Ocular Lesions Which Result from a Deficiency of Vitamine A

There is evidence suggesting that the ophthalmia which results from a deficiency of vitamine A is secondary to some change outside the eyes, and that this change may lie in the paraocular glands. In rats these glands consist of the lacrimal, with its watery secretion, the Harderian, with a probable fatty product, and the Meibomian glands. A histological study of these structures shows questiona...

Morphological Changes of Rabbit Lacrimal Gland Cells from Amiodarone Administration

Background: Amiodarone is a drug that is used for treatment of cardiac arrhythmia after cardiac ischemia. This drug as b blocker decreases arrhythmia rate but it has many side effects on different tissues. Since there are rare reports about changes of lacrimal glands, this research has been carried out to study the morphological and ultrastructural changes of lacrimal gland cells after amiodaro...
